Tinubu taunts Obasanjo over his ‘bad belle’ letter to Buhari

Bola Tinubu, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described as “bad belle” the letter former President Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari in January.

In the strongly-worded letter, Obasanjo had warned Buhari against participating in the 2019 presidential election.

“He has a role to play on the sideline for the good of Nigeria, Africa and humanity and I will see him as a partner in playing such role nationally and internationally, but not as a horse rider in Nigeria again,” the former president had written.

But, speaking at the colloquium held in his honour on Thursday in Lagos, Tinubu referred to Obasanjo’s letter as “bad belle”.

“I remember my grandmother used to send me to a letter writer in the post office of those days, so somebody is writing letters these days, a letter of politics, as if they’ve never been there before. Bad belle letters,” he said.

The federal government had also told Obasanjo not to distract Buhari’s government with talks about 2019 election.

“On whether or not President Muhammadu Buhari should run for another term, it is true that many Nigerians have been calling on the President to run again, while others are opposed to his return,” Lai Mohammed,  minister of information, had said in a statement, adding that the issue as raised by Obasanjo was a distraction at the moment because Buhari is still tackling the enormous challenged facing the country.
