Tinubu: Those responsible for Ibadan explosion must be punished

President Bola Tinubu says those responsible for the explosion which took place in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, must be punished.

On Tuesday, an explosion hit some parts of Ibadan, which led to the destruction of many houses.

During a visit to the scene of the explosion, Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, said the incident was caused by illegal miners who stored explosive devices in one of the buildings in the Bodija area of the city.

Makinde said the explosion led to the death of two people and injured 77 others.

In a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson, on Wednesday, Tinubu said it is worrisome that the explosion is being “attributed to the activities of illegal miners”.

The president directed concerned agencies to find out the circumstances that led to the incident with immediate effect.

The president asked the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to work with the Oyo government to offer immediate relief to the victims.

“It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners,” the statement reads.

“Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behaviour that has created the conditions for the sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished.”
