Tinubu to attend Guinea Bissau’s independence anniversary on Thursday

President Bola Tinubu will leave the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Thursday for Guinea Bissau, to attend the country’s 50th independence anniversary.

Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, announced Tinubu’s travelling schedule in a statement on Wednesday.

The announcement follows the president’s week-long engagement in Riyadh, the Saudi Arabian capital city.

Tinubu has been attending the Saudi-Africa summit as part of efforts to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and mobilise capital to build needed infrastructure in the country.

This will be Tinubu’s second official trip to Guinea Bissau.

In July, he attended the 63rd ordinary session of the authority of heads of state and government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) – his first international engagement within the African continent since he assumed office.

This time, the Nigerian leader will be visiting at the behest of President Umaro Embalo.

Ngelale said Guinea-Bissau marked its 50th independence anniversary on September 24, 2023, but the government had scheduled all celebrations for November 16.

The president is expected to return to Nigeria on Thursday, Ngelale added.
