‘To increase women’s voices’ — Ogboro-Okor joins Edo guber race under LP

Loretta Ogboro-Okor, a consultant gynaecologist, has declared her intention to contest the 2024 Edo governorship election on the platform of the Labour Party (LP)

Ogboro-Okor declared on Monday at the LP secretariat in Benin, the state capital.

The election will be held on September 21, 2024.

Ogboro-Okor said her manifesto is centred on improving the welfare of Edo people and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

“…we want to look at technology, health and education. In terms of creating an enabling environment, we want to create a situation where the ease of doing business in the state is 100 percent,” NAN quoted the governorship aspirant saying.

“When the ease of doing business is improved, production in the different sectors will increase.”

The gynaecologist said she joined the governorship race to increase women’s voices in the decision-making process.

“A lot of women are always at the back door, it is time we took our place in the political space. We have to be at the table so that we can shake it,” she said.

“We thank all our fathers who are standing with us to bring light to the state, we are happy that our fathers are ready to support us.”

In a social media post after the declaration, Ogboro-Okor said the people of Edo state showed her their support and cheered her on.

“Their encouragement and enthusiasm further fueled my determination to serve them diligently,” the post reads.

“In taking on this responsibility, I want to assure the people of Edo that I am committed to being a great leader.

“My promise is rooted in the sincere intention not to let them down. I am driven by a genuine desire to contribute to the betterment of Edo state, and I am eager to embark on this journey with the support and trust of its wonderful people.”
