Mariya Mahmoud, minister of state for the federal capital territory (FCT), has donated digital tools to women who are into fish farming in Kano state.
Mahmoud donated the tools on Thursday at the closing ceremony of a five-day empowerment programme on modern agriculture for women and youths held in Kano.
The minister said the programme, aimed at promoting skills acquisition and providing support to women entrepreneurs and farmers, was part of the Renewed Hope initiative of Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the president.
“I see this programme as one of the outcomes of the numerous humanitarian services of promoting education, skills acquisition, women and youth empowerment through the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu,” NAN quoted Mahmoud as saying.

“I, therefore, commend the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development for taking this bold step that will enable farmers to use research data and adopt technology necessary to accelerate growth in the agricultural sector.”
The FCT minister of state presented laptops, cash, and certificates to 26 young female fish farmers in the state.
Also speaking, Taslim Atoyebi, assistant director of Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, said agriculture provides jobs for over 75 percent of the country’s workforce.

Atoyebi said there is a rise in the demand for agricultural products in the country, adding that empowering farmers would help lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty.
“We will continue to monitor your progress and support your growth all year round to create digital farmers in the north-west zone of Nigeria,” she added
“We conducted this training to expose you to the technological innovations in the agricultural sector.”
