Taoreed Lagbaja, chief of army staff (COAS), has inaugurated a 30-flat accommodation for troops of the Nigerian Army in Borno state.
In a statement on Friday, Onyema Nwachukwu, army spokesperson, said Lagbaja commissioned the apartments during his tour of the joint task force north-east operation Hadin Kai.
According to the statement, the apartments consist of a living room, two bedrooms, an ensuite bathroom, a kitchen, and toilets in each of the flats located at the Maimalari military cantonment in Maiduguri, the Borno capital.
The COAS, who presented keys to soldier beneficiaries of the new accommodation, said the project was part of the fulfilment of the promise he made to the troops to prioritise their welfare.
He said it is part of his command’s philosophy “to transform the Nigerian army into a well-trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment”.
He said the flats would solve the problems of accommodation for troops, adding that the ongoing transformation of the army through effective interventions would be sustained.
He affirmed that all welfare issues would be treated with utmost concern.
“Be rest assured that what is due to you will get to you. The personal and group life insurance will be taken care of. Light, water and other amenities will be provided in your barracks,” he added.
The COAS urged the troops to reciprocate the gesture by adhering to the values of the army and remaining dedicated to their service to the country.
