Dele Alli, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, was robbed at knifepoint after burglars broke into the north London home he was at in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

According to ESPN, the 24-year-old was with Ruby Mae, his girlfriend; Harry Hickford, his adopted brother; Harry’s girlfriend and a friend at the time of the incident.

He was punched in the face after being threatened by two masked intruders armed with knives, who made off with thousands of pounds worth of jewellery, including expensive watches.

Alli, who suffered facial injuries alongside his stepbrother during the burglary, took to his Twitter handle to thank fans who reached out to him.

“Thank you for all the messages. Horrible experience but we’re all okay now. Appreciate the support,” he wrote.

In a statement, the Metropolitan police said no arrest had been made but inquiries were ongoing.

It also confirmed that a man in his 20s — believed to be Alli — was struck in the face and suffered minor injuries before the robbers took various items prior to fleeing.

A spokesman added: “Police were called at approximately 12.35am on Wednesday, May 13, to reports of a robbery at a residential address.

“Two males gained entry to the property and stole items of jewellery, including watches, before fleeing.

“Two male occupants at the property suffered minor facial injuries after being assaulted. They did not require hospital treatment.

“There have been no arrests. Enquiries into the circumstances continue.”

The English international had scored nine goals in 35 appearances for Tottenham when the season was suspended in March because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

A Spurs spokesperson added: “We have been offering our support to Dele and those isolating with him. We encourage anyone with any information to help the police with their investigation to come forward.”

The latest raid comes two months after the family of Jan Vertonghen, another Tottenham player, was robbed at knifepoint while he was away on Champions League duty.
