TP Mazembe win African Champions League

TP Mazembe of the Congo DR were crowned club champions of Africa after a 2-0 victory over Algeria’s USM Alger in the second leg of the Champions League final on Sunday.

Goals from Mbwana Samatta and Roger Assale in front of their home fans in Lubumbashi were enough to earn Mazembe a fifth title.

The victory gave Mazembe a 4-1 triumph on aggregate after the Congolese side had won 2-1 in the first leg in Algiers last weekend.

Mazembe, managed by former Mali coach Patrice Carteron, join Zamalek of Egypt as the second most successful sides in the tournament’s history, behind eight-time champions Al Ahly of Egypt.
