The National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) says its members will continue to help stabilise the country.
The traditional rulers stated this at the 12th general assembly of the council, which was held in Kano on Monday.
The theme for the general assembly was “Imperative of Unity, Peace and Development: The Role of Traditional Rulers”.
Sa’ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto and chairman of the council, said traditional rulers will maintain neutrality in all their activities in order to bring peace to the country.

“We want to assure all political leaders of our neutrality in whatever we do, because we care for this country and our people. We will continue to help to stabilise this nation,” he said.
“Let the political leaders have confidence in this institution because we are here to support and help them, and insha Allah, this country will continue to grow stronger and stronger and become united.”
In his remarks, Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano who declared the assembly open, thanked the council for allowing the 2021 edition hold in the state.

“This assembly has come at a time when our country, particularly the northern region, has been faced with enormous security challenges in spite of the measures involved by the government at various levels to check the menace and trend at which the crime is committed,” the governor said.
“Therefore, this informed the need for the royal fathers here present to focus much attention on scouting the remedies for this serious menace.”
Ganduje added that Kano has enjoyed relative peace as a result of the commitment of his administration to tackling insecurity.
