Transfer saga: Ighalo berates Osimhen’s critics, says ‘I felt a pain in his voice’

Ighalo on Osimhen: 'I spoke to him, and I can feel the pain in his voice, the way he's been treated'

Odion Ighalo, former Super Eagles striker, has taken to social media to support Victor Osimhen amid transfer issues with Napoli FC.

Osimhen wanted away from Napoli throughout the just-concluded transfer window, but interests from Chelsea and Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli fell through in the end.

Consequently, the club has ostracised him from its squad for the 2024/25 Serie A season.

The chaotic development has spurred several comments on social media, particularly from Nigerians. Some opinions supported Osimhen’s struggle, while others blamed him.

In a tweet on his X account on Sunday, Ighalo said Nigerians’ comments about Osimhen’s situation “make me really sad” because “this young man plays with heart and pains for his country”.

He said he spoke to Osimhen, and could “feel the pain in his voice, the way he’s been treated”.

“No human being is perfect, and we have all made mistakes in life,” the tweet reads.

“But seeing comments about this young man from his own country people makes me really sad; without even knowing what happened, I spoke to him, and I can feel the pain in his voice, the way he’s been treated, this young man plays with heart and pains for his country.”

Ighalo then added that Osimhen will “be back stronger”.
