Transparency International: We don’t have anything against the military

Auwal Rafsanjani, representative of Transparency International (TI) in Nigeria, says the anti-corruption group is not working against the interest of the Nigerian military.

Recently, the organisation released a report on how senior officers have been allegedly making profit from the fight against insurgency.

The military had denied the report, accusing the agency of mischief.

But speaking on AIT, Rafsanjani said the report was not meant to derail the anti-corruption fight by the current administration.

According to him, the report was aimed at commending and complementing the efforts of the various service chiefs for “deviating from the past”.

He advised the leadership of the military to study some recommendations made by TI, saying such step would strengthen its ongoing war against “every form of corruption within its rank and file”.

Rafsanjani also called on the military to ensure that its doors are always open and to improve its relationship with the civil society.

“The military remains key to the sustenance of any healthy society,” he said.
