The news of earth tremors in the federal capital territory has elicited reactions on social media.
While some residents of Abuja are panicking, others are calling on the relevant authorities to swing into action.
The assurance of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that there is no likelihood of an earthquake has not assuaged the worry of many.
Here are some reactions from Twitter:

I have informed the FCT Minister and Perm Sec. on the scaring earth movement in some parts of Abuja at 6:11am. I felt earth tremors in my home in maitama too. Measures are been taken to address the problem.
I will keep the FCT administration on their toes on this.— Senator Dino Melaye. (SDM) (@_dinomelaye) September 7, 2018

News of tremors in Abuja and fault lines across Nigeria is worrisome. In the midst of our social, political, economic, and religious troubles, we can't handle an ecological disaster. I strongly urge the govt not to leave this issue to prayer and sentiment. Please research and act

My house in Abuja shook even more violently at 6:12 am this morning. This time, it was accompanied by a loud bang. Windows rattled and the dogs barked immediately. Again, a bit like a bomb.

Whether what happened in Abuja was a tremor or not the thing is if a bigger thing like an earthquake should happen how ready are we to be able to evacuate people and save a lot of lives it's not about praying to God like we always like doing in this country but by taking steps

Typical. All the geological agencies are in slumber. I felt the movement this morning. I was shocked, and I just the #abujatremors news on twitter. https://t.co/n09HupsT4Q

We don't even have an agency competent enough to accurately ascertain what's going on with the Abuja tremors. God help us!

The country should just be solution conscious not problem conscious right now. fleet of geologist should be mobilized to bring competent tremor or earthquake magnitude and intensity data for decision making.#Abuja #abujatremors #AbujaTremor #nigeria #USGS #Earthquakes #geology

Let's face the truth…the reality is that we're getting closer and closer to a 'man made' EARTH QUAKE in some locations in Nigeria. I mean what did we expect?, that all these un controlled indiscriminate sinking of BOREHOLES in Abuja will not have consequences?
— Demola (@Deimlar) September 7, 2018
I wish to encourage inhabitants of Abuja not to panic following reported cases of tremor experienced in some parts of the city. It will be reassuring to citizens for the relevant authorities to investigate the situation.
— Atiku Abubakar (@atiku) September 7, 2018
This tremors should be a wake up call by the Government to make emergency equipments and necessities ready incase something bigger than what Abuja experienced happens again something Life threatening

We’re in another level here in Abuja…we don’t need alarm clocks, TREMOR wakes us up and jerks us off the bed 😢😢😢😢 #hopeitsnotearthquake #abujatremors #abuja

The memo by FEMA on the tremors in Abuja seem to be too speculative and shallow. Meanwhile answers lie around in the open web. Answer put together by people who seem to know what they are doing even with matters that concern us.

Sad thing about this Abuja earth tremor is that people who are supposed to be Geologists are already working In GTBank.
No Agency to trust 😭

We fail to understand that having perfectly logical scientific reasons for something doesn’t invalidate the fact that there are spiritual causative factors as well. #AbujaTremors

Scariest part of this Abuja tremors is if something happens I fear we don’t have a well equipped emergency response team to handle the situation. #Abujatremors #AbujaEarthquake

Employ us to gather geologic/earth surveillance data about earthquake and tremors-No, they wont. Geologist now find niche in bank and financial services company's. SO PATHETIC #ABUJATREMORS

The blanket press statement from the government is not enough to explain these Abuja Tremors. Thorough investigation is needed. We shouldn't be okay with just "maybes". We should be informed with more certainty. #AbujaTremors

Its obvious that we depend on Archean geoscientific data, which was postulated by pioneers in modern Geoscience even till now, forgetting that the earth is dynamic with lots of unseen processing in surface and sub-surface .#abujatremors #Nigeria #USGS #EarthTremor #AbujaTremor

You can't be rock blasting everyday (sometimes night quarrying) like economic riffraffs and expect the earth not to give in. Full scale regulation needed but we know how bribes water down needed regulations in these parts. #AbujaTremors
