TRENDING: How #KeepTheChangeBae became number one topic on Twitter

By now, any attention-paying Nigerian on Twitter should be familiar with #KeepTheChangeBae.

The hashtag which has dominated discourse on Nigerian Twitter for over 48 hours came to life courtesy of the tweets of an Ibadan-based man, Adeniyi Adedeji.

Writing with the handle @pabloadedeji, Adedeji took to Twitter to lament that after taking a lady out on a movie date, she had the effrontery to say she wasn’t interested in forging a relationship with him.

In his mind, Adedeji thought he had won her over.

Her response, apparently, did not go down well with him; hence he took to Twitter to vent his rage.

The recipient of his vitriol @Missmoshiku, after seeing his tweets, sent N5,000 to him – more than what he spent on her – and told him to keep the change.

Her reaction to Adedeji’s public lamentation generated more reactions and piqued the interest of some brands and celebrities – who quickly identified with her.

MTN, Stanbic Bank, Adekunle Gold and some others had this to say.
