TRENDING: Osun pupils wear church robes to school to ‘counter’ hijabs

Christian students in Osun state are wearing church garments and robes to school, following a court ruling on the use of hijab in schools.

On June 3, Jide Falola, presiding judge at the Osun state high court, had ruled that Muslim students in the state could wear hijab to primary and secondary schools.

In response to this ruling, Christian students in the state were seen spotting church robes and garment to school on Tuesday.

In a statement by its chairman, Elisha Ogundiya, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), had warned that Christian students would start wearing garments if the state allowed hijab in schools.

“Where the Osun state government is inclined to implementing the judgment, Christian students in all public schools founded by Christians with the toil and sweat of our forefathers in the faith will have no choice but to start wearing Christian garments and vestments as part of their school uniform,” CAN said.

The association added that this would be “for the propagation of our own faith given the Justice Saka Oyejide Falola declared right of Muslim female students to do same as what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander as well. Adherents of other faiths who have their choice to make in this matter can wear theirs as well.”

  1. That is a wellcome development even thought am a muslim. Is better than wearing half naked cloth to schools

  2. Where are we heading with these nonsensical rulings. Can’t we let us be. People that brought education to us are not embroidered with these. A school is a place to obtain knowledge whether hijab or robes a thief must be a thief. But let me ask a question. Why is this Muslim laws not applicable to the politicians who amass I legal wealth and sharia does nothing about it

  3. The Osun schools have uniforms provided by the Osun State Government. This is to prevent the students going half naked. The school uniforms do not include Hijabs.
The Governor of the State of Osun should face the problems of the State like paying the salaries of the civil servants, Capital projects etc. Conflicts should not be introduced where there has been peace.

  4. Lets be Frank here. Am a christian and not in support of the way things are going in this country.Lets leave other pples ways of religious practices for them. Lets avoid emulating them. its not gonna do us any good. Hijab or no hijab has been there for years why bringing up the issue now? if its bcos boko, i think there are other ways of tackling it since we have the rule of law. This new development should stop if not we are going to make this country uncomfortable for all even our next generation. Pls and pls. this religious issues are becoming much.

  5. On grounds of constitution, spirituality, peace and unity, CAN and the Church have no justification to disapprove or disallow the use of hijabs by Muslim girls in missionary schoos established by Christians in the Nigerian nation. Secularism calls for inter-faith and the highest degree of tolerance where it should be possible for Christians to pray in mosques and Muslims to perform salats in Churches!!!! Irrespective of Scriptures and religions, the most crucial experience of all the realities of God is His ONENESS – Allah is Jehovah!!!! Unity of God calls for unity of mankind. Nigeria is not a jungle. Our religious leaders must therefore lay good example for others to follow. They must not use religion to divide our people. Thank you.
