The Lagos state governorship election tribunal has affirmed the victory of Babajide Sanwo-Olu after dismissing a petition filed by Abdul-Azeez Adeniran, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In the ruling on Monday, Mikail Abdullahi, a member of the three-member panel, said the petition by Adeniran, popularly known as Jandor, seeking to nullify Sanwo-Olu’s election, lacked merit.

Earlier, the panel struck out the petition by Jandor seeking the disqualification of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) candidates in the election for “non-compliance” with the Electoral Act 2022 and guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Adediran and the PDP argued that Sanwo-Olu failed to attach a copy of the GCE O’Level result he claimed to have obtained in 1981 with his form EC9 as required by the Electoral Act.

In the unanimous ruling, Abdullahi said the petitioner testified in his petition that Sanwo-Olu did not attend Community Grammar School, Ijebu-Ife, where the certificate originated from.

He added that the petitioner also testified that the principal of the school was still alive.

While dismissing the petition, the panel queried why the petitioner failed to produce the principal or any of the staff of the school to testify about the certificate.
