Troops arrest bandit kingpin in Sokoto

The troops of Forward Operating Base (FOB) have arrested a notorious bandit kingpin identified as Jabi Ruwa in Sokoto.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the troop, who were assisted by local guides stormed the hideout on Friday and arrested Ruwa and 4 of his members at Dambala village. 

The report said they are currently undergoing preliminary interrogations.

In another development, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) cleared bandits’ enclaves at Sangeko, Kabugu Lamba, Kaboro, and Mairairai villages at Maru LGA in Zamfara.

During the operation, the troops came in contact with armed bandits who eventually fled due to the superior firepower of the military.

The report confirmed that the armed men that confronted the troops are disciples of one Alhaji Iluader, another notorious bandit in the area.

On July 26, TheCable reported that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) component of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) reportedly killed many fighters loyal to Alhaji Nashama, a notorious terrorist in the region.

On July 20, troops of Operation Hadarim Daji rescued 22 kidnap victims during a raid on bandits’ hideouts in Zamfara. The NAF also killed scores of Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters around the Lake Chad region. 

On July 15, through a series of air strikes, NAF destroyed hideouts of the terrorist group and dropped bombs in Arina Chiki, a known terrorist shelter in southern Tumbuns of Borno.
