Troops arrest ‘bandit leader’ in Niger

Troops of the Nigerian army have arrested a notorious bandit leader, popularly known as Jack Bros Yellow, in Niger state.

A source who confirmed this development to TheCable said Yellow was arrested during a military raid in one of the forests between Shiroro and Rafi LGA.

The bandit leader was said to have been terrorising many communities in three different LGA of Shiroro, Munya and Rafi for months.

He allegedly demanded N3million from some communities to stop banditry in the areas but was short-changed by some other gang leaders.

Yellow and his boys were said to have kidnapped about nine women from Galape village in Shiroro LGA in January and demanded a ransom of N10million for their release.

Those women are yet to regain their freedom till date.

It was also gathered that Yellow also has a link with some bandit groups in Zamfara where he transfers kidnapped victims if ransom demanded by their families are not met at the stipulated time.

TheCable contacted Mohammed Yerima, army spokesman, who said the issue is still under investigation.

“We are investigating that issue and I will get back to you,” he said.
