Troops arrest suspected killer of Plateau Fulani leader in Lagos

The Nigerian Army says troops have arrested Philip Gokas, the suspect behind the murder of Adamu Gabdo, a leader of Fulani herders in Plateau state.

On September 23, Gabdo, the Ardo of Panyam, was killed in the community in Mangu LGA of Plateau.

Some days later, Taoreed Lagbaja, the chief of army staff (COAS), ordered men of operation Safe Haven (OPSH) to arrest the killers of Gabdo.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Nigerian Army said the troops of OPSH tracked the suspect to the Ogba area of Lagos after weeks of manhunt.

According to the statement, Gokas was arrested at a football viewing centre where he was drinking beer.

The army disclosed that the suspect confessed to the murder of Gabdo.

“The arrest of Mr Philip Gokas also known as Jaykimo in Lagos State was following weeks of painstaking manhunt to bring the criminal to justice,” the statement reads.

“The relentless pursuit by OPSH led to his tracking and subsequent arrest in the Ogba area of Lagos State, where he was found enjoying himself and drinking beer at a football viewing centre.

“The arrest of Mr. Philip Gokas is a testament to the commitment and unwavering dedication of OPSH and the effectiveness of collaborative efforts.

“Mr. Gokas has fully confessed to the crime and has provided crucial information that will aid in the arrest of additional individuals involved in this heinous act in the coming days.”
