Troops ‘foil’ B’Haram attempt to seize Damaturu

The defence headquarters says Nigerian troops have foiled Friday night’s attempt by Boko Haram to capture Damaturu, capital of Yobe state.

The terror group had attempted to capture the city in December, but Nigerian troops beat them back.

According to the defence headquarters (DHQ) which announced the successful operation on Saturday through its Twitter handle (@DefenceInfoNG), Boko Haram militants launched multiple attacks on the city but soldiers on the ground warded them off.

“Troops on a mopping up operation in Damaturu after foiling attempts by terrorist to occupy parts of the town,” it said.

“The terrorists launched massive attacks from different angles, Friday night. Weapons including improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and rocket propelled grenade launchers were captured.”

DHQ added that while the number of dead terrorists and civilian casualty were still being compiled, it could confirm that five fatally-wounded soldiers were being treated.

“We have reinforced the town of Damaturu as pursuit of fleeing terrorist is ongoing,” it said.

  1. Bravo to our gallant soldiers that put their precious lives on the line for the insurgency war. I do appreciate your efforts in every way and of course quite many of us shudder at the sound of ordinary bangers talkless of heavy artilleries. And oftentimes, we hasten to condemn the efforts of these brave men and women at war laying their lives down to protect the very people disparaging them. There are many good Nigerians that are ready to contribute financially to assist in this war. I suggest that govt will create an avenue where people could voluntarily post some money which could be used to further the welfare of our brilliant soldiers. Bravo to our army, you are doing a great job!
