Troops ‘capture 5 terrorists’ in failed Boko Haram attack on Biu

Chris Olukolade, the defence spokesman, says the military has repelled an attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Biu, Borno state.

Biu, one of the largest towns in the state, was attacked in the early hours of Wednesday.

Olukolade said two anti-aircraft guns were seized from the militants and five of them were arrested.

“Terrorist attack repelled by the military in Biu, Borno state. Two anti-aircraft guns have been captured from the Terrorists,” he said.

“Troops in pursuit of fleeing terrorists as mopping up operation is ongoing. Five terrorists have so far been captured.”

Boko Haram has continued to wreak havoc on many communities particularly in the north-east part of the country.

Only on Tuesday, a Boko Haram suicide bomber detonated a bomb near a mosque close to the Gombe state university, killing an unspecified number of people.
