Troops ‘kill bandit’, recover weapons in Kaduna

The Nigerian army says its troops have killed a bandit in Sabon Birni, Igabi LGA of Kaduna.

In a statement on Wednesday, Musa Yahaya, division 1 acting public relations deputy director, said the troops also recovered arms and ammunition.  

Yahaya said the bandit was killed on Sunday following an ambush of his armed group in the area.

He said the troops recovered one AK 47 rifle and magazine loaded with 15 of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, a Baofeng radio and two Techno phones.

“Troops of the Division, in another sting operation along Dende-Buruku Road in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Dec 15, ambushed some bandits,” NAN quoted Yahaya as saying.

“During the operation, several bandits escaped with gunshot wounds while troops recovered one AK 47 rifle and one AK 47 rifle magazine loaded with four 7.62mm (special) ammunition.”

Yahaya said Valentine Okoro, the general officer commanding of the division, has commended the troops for their resilience and efforts to end banditry in the country.

Yahaya, who doubles as the force commander of Operation Whirl Punch, also urged the troops to continue denying bandits, terrorists and all criminal elements any freedom to perpetrate their evil acts.
