Troops kill eight ‘bandits’, recover weapons in Kaduna

Troops of the Nigerian Army have reportedly killed eight bandits during a fighting patrol around Kampanin Doka and Gayam in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna.

In a statement on Thursday, Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna commissioner for internal security and home affairs, said the bandits were neutralised by troops of Operation Whirl Punch.

He said the troops engaged the bandits in a gun duel neutralising seven, while one other was killed during the final phase of the patrol at Gayam general area.

“On securing and searching the area, the troops recovered the following: Three AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines, four empty and four loaded with a total of 120 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and one magazine carrier,” the statement reads.

Other items recovered include six motorcycles, three mobile phones, two Baofeng radio sets and three pairs of civilian clothes.

“During the concluding leg of the patrol, further contact was made with bandits around Gayam general area. The troops neutralized one, as others were suspected to have escaped with gunshot wounds,” he said.

The commissioner said Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, commended the troops for their valiant efforts and notable breakthrough.

He urged citizens to report anyone seeking treatment for gunshot wounds to the authorities.

“Fighting patrols will continue within the general area and other locations of interest,” he added.
