Troops ‘kill notorious bandit’ in Kebbi

Operatives of the Nigerian army in Kebbi have reportedly killed a notorious bandit identified by the moniker ‘Mai-Nasara’ at Sengeko forest in Danko Wasagu LGA.

AbdulRahman Usman, director of security at the cabinet office, confirmed the report and said two other bandits linked to Mai-Nasara were also killed.

“As the troops were on routine patrol in Sengeko forest around 0730hrs, they suddenly engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel,” he said.

”During the exchange of fire, the bandits tried to escape but were neutralised by the army and two of their bikes were also recovered and destroyed in the process before the troops withdrew to FOB Malekachi  by 1230hrs.”

Usman also appealed to residents of the state to hand security operatives all the necessary support and cooperation in a bid to rid the state of criminality.

“Your support and cooperation is highly necessary for the security agencies to achieve the desired goal of flushing out criminals and restoring peace and normalcy in our land,” he said.

“Security is supposed to be everybody’s business, therefore, people should endeavour to assist the security agencies in all ramifications, especially with credible intelligence towards successful combats.”

On his part, Ahmed Idris, the chief press secretary to the state governor, reiterated the governor’s resolve to annihilate bandits and other criminals. 

On October 22, Nasir Idris, the governor of Kebbi, donated N7 million to residents of Kanzanna village in Tilli district of Bunza LGA, to cushion the impact of banditry in the area.

Suspected bandits had attacked the village on October 19, killing two people and kidnapping three others.
