Troops of Operation Safe Haven have killed Hamisu Saleh, a “notorious” militia leader and suspected Kidnapper, during a raid in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau state.

A report by Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, stated that the operation took place on February 11 as part of efforts to combat criminal activities in the area.

According to the Makama, 25-year-oldSaleh was arrested in December 2024 for his alleged role in attacks, killings, and kidnappings in Barkin Ladi, but later resurfaced on December 11 and resumed his criminal activities.

The publication said that following investigations and interrogations, Saleh admitted to multiple kidnappings and revealed locations where weapons used for criminal operations were hidden.

Troops, acting on this intelligence, launched a raid in Ropp, Barkin Ladi LGA, at about 8:47 pm on February 11 to arrest other gang members and recover weapons.

During the operation, Saleh allegedly attempted to mislead the troops by providing false information about the gang’s hideouts and weapon storage locations.

“In a desperate move to escape and attack the soldiers, he tried to snatch a soldier’s weapon. The troops responded swiftly and neutralised him,” the report reads.

Makama added that a search of the area yielded no additional recoveries, but the military sources assured that offensive operations would continue to track down other criminals.
