Troops ‘kill scores of ISWAP fighters’ in Yobe

Troops of Nigerian army’s 27 task force battalion have reportedly killed scores of Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) fighters in Yobe.

According to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the ISWAP members had converged at Wulle on Sunday to launch an attack on the nearest troops formation when they were engaged by the troops.

“It was gathered that the insurgents had converged at a location given as Wulle with motorcycles and vehicles with the intention to carry out attack on the nearest troops formation,” a source was quoted to have said.

“Acting on intelligence, the troops of fired several artillery at the terrorists which resulted in the killing of unspecified numbers of them.”

The source added that some of the terrorists later returned on six motorcycles and one vehicle to evacuate the bodies of their members.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, ISWAP fighters reportedly killed a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Banisheik in Kaga LGA of Borno.

According to Zagazola Makama, the ISWAP fighters sneaked into the town around 3:30 am before engaging the security men in a heavy gun battle.

The ISWAP members were said to have set ablaze four patrol vehicles of the CJTF.
