Troops ‘kill three bandits’, recover arms in Plateau

Troops of Operation Safe Haven have reportedly killed three bandits in Mangu LGA of the state.

TheCable gathered that the troops engaged the bandits in a gun duel after foiling an ambush laid by the gunmen on Wednesday along Mangu/Pushit road.

During the encounter that led to the death of three bandits, three AK47 rifles, 14 rounds of 7.62 special rounds, one motorcycle and a constabulary police ID card were recovered.

Sources in the military said other members of the bandit group escaped from the battle scene with gunshot wounds.

Speaking on the development, Abdusalam Abubakar, the commander of the operation, said the Nigerian army remains resolute in the discharge of its mandate within the ambit of the law.

Abubakar said the troops will continue to be firm, bold, decisive and just about their activities in the state.

He said all distress calls would be responded to promptly as more troops would be deployed to remote areas in the LGA for enhanced rapid response.

TheCable had reported how Abubakar relocated the base of the command to Mangu LGA.

The army chief said the decision was in line the command’s decisive effort to tackle insecurity in the area.
