Troops kill two ‘Boko Haram tax collectors’, four ‘ fighters’ in Yobe

The troops of sector 2 of the 233 battalion of Operation Hadin Kai have killed six Boko Haram fighters in Yobe.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the fighters were killed in separate operations between Wednesday nights and Thursday morning. 

The publication reported that the troops, who were on fighting patrol, were tipped off with the information that the suspected terrorists were invading Kurnawa and Bajingo villages, Tarmuwa LGA of the state, around 6:45 p.m.

The troops killed four Boko Haram fighters and recovered one AK 47 Riffle and two motorcycles among other items.

Zagazola Makama added that two troopers sustained minor injuries but were said to be back to their feet after being treated before the press time.

The publication said the troops of the 159 battalion in Jororo village, Gaidam LGA of the state, conducted another fighting patrol at about 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the account given, the troops were informed of the presence and activities of terrorists harassing innocent civilians and collecting levies in the village.

“The troops killed two of the forceful tax collectors and recovered two AK-47 rifles and two motorcycles,” Zagazola Makama quoted a security source as saying. 

In a similar development, the troops of the 27 task force brigade foiled an attack on Buni Gari in Gujba LGA by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.

The attackers were said to have invaded the community in large numbers on motorcycles and two gun trucks.

The publication added that the troops “responded with superior firepower” to the fighters’ sporadic shootings.
