Troops nab ‘notorious gunrunner’ in Kaduna, recover weapons

Troops of sector 7, Operation Safe Haven, have arrested a “notorious gunrunner and his son” at Fadiya village in Zangon Kataf LGA of Kaduna.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, operatives arrested the alleged arms trafficker and his son on January 19.

The publication said intelligence sources confirmed the suspects as 62-year-old Timothy Yusuf, and Timothy Obadiah, his son. 

The troops reportedly recovered 11 fabricated rifles, two AK-47 magazines, and 60 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.

“The suspects and the recovered arms and ammunition are currently in custody for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to track and arrest other members of the gunrunning syndicate,” the source said.

On Sunday, troops of Operation Fansan Yanma reportedly killed the son of Bello Turji, a “notorious bandit leader”, during a fusillade on the suspect’s hideouts in Zamfara. 

The strikes were a combination of ground and air attacks which dismantled the hideouts in Fakai, Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara.
