Troops, NDLEA recover arms from ‘drug baron’ in Abia

Troops of sector 1, sub-sector 4 and operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have recovered arms from the home of one Maxi Ota Benjamin, a suspected drug baron, in Abia state.

The suspect who is now at large resides in Amirima compound, Achara Ihechiowa community in Arochukwu local government area of Abia.

In a statement on Sunday, Sagir Musa, deputy director public relations 82 division, said the raid on Benjamin’s home was carried out on Saturday at about 1:45am.

Sagir said during the raid, four people believed to accomplices to the suspected drug baron were apprehended from the compound.

“The items recovered;  one short single barrel gun, one long single barrel gun, one automatic pump action rifle, one locally made double barrel pistol, one binoculars and two mobile phones of Intel and kismo brands,” the statement read.

“Others are some substance suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspects and the substance have been handed over to NDLEA for further action.

“Similarly, the provision of free medical services to the people of Nnarambia community, Ahiara Mbaise in Ahiazu Mbaise local government area of Imo state was successfully conducted today 23 September 2017.”
