Personnel of the Nigerian army reportedly foiled an attack by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Monguno LGA of Borno.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the insurgents were engaged by the troops of Sector 3 multi-national joint task force (MNJTF).

Makama said the terrorists stormed the area on several Hilux trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns on Thursday.

The publication said some of the terrorists rode on motorcycles, while those who were on foot attacked the troops at Charlie 6 in Monguno town.

In another development, over 100 troops raided bandits’ hideouts in Iche, Taka-Lafiya, Gidan Makeri and Janjala communities in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna.

The bandits were said to have fled the far north and were relocating to set up camp around some villages in Kagarko.

Confirming the military raid on Friday, Onyema Nwachukwu, army spokesperson, said the troops conducted an operation in Kagarko on Wednesday.

“Information at my disposal confirms that troops conducted operations in the said area but no informant has been arrested,” Nwachukwu told TheCable.

In recent weeks, troops of the Nigerian army have intensified efforts in the fight against terrorists in parts of the country.
