Troops ‘rescue’ another Chibok girl with children from Sambisa forest

Troops of 21 armoured brigade of the Nigerian Army have reportedly rescued Ihyi Abudu, one of the Chibok schoolgirls, and her children. 

On April 14, 2014, 276 schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists from Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok town, Borno.

Many of the girls have since been rescued, while others remain in captivity.

Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on counter-insurgency, reports that the troops rescued 99 women and children from Boko Haram’s stronghold in the Sambisa forest.

“The operation, code-named Operation Lake Sanity ll, was in continuation of the troops of Operation Hadin Kai’s efforts to annihilate the terrorists in Sambisa, Timbuktu, and other parts of the North East Region,” the publication quoted a military source as saying.

“The rescued girl, who was serial number 67 on the abducted Chibok girls list, escaped from Parisu hideouts of the terrorists and was rescued during a clearance operation in the Bararam general area in Sambisa Forest.”

Zagazola said the troops also rescued 41 women and 57 children, as well as the Chibok girl and her children.

“The source explained that after a successful rescue mission, the Nigerian Army’s Medical Corps sprang into action and provided critical medical care to the freed captives. The team raced against time to immunize the victims against deadly diseases,” the publication added.

“The medical team quickly assessed their condition. Many showed signs of malnutrition, dehydration, and exposure to diseases. The team sprang into action, administering vaccines and medications to prevent the spread of diseases.”

Last year, the army rescued Mary Nkeki, who was serial number 55 on the list of the abducted Chibok girls.

The troops said Nkeki was found on August 14 in Dikwa LGA of the state.
