William Troost-Ekong, Super Eagles of Nigeria defender, and his Watford teammates have won promotion back to the English Premier League (EPL) following a 1-0 win over Millwall on Saturday.

The English Championship club achieved an immediate return to the money-spinning Premier League at the first attempt following relegation last season.

Ismael Sarr, Senegalese winger, scored the winning penalty in the first half to give the Hornets an unassailable lead in second place, clinching the second automatic qualification ticket.

Troost-Ekong, the rock-solid assistant captain of the Eagles, has been instrumental to a change in fortunes of the club since signing in September last year, playing 32 games including every minute of Saturday’s win.

The 27-year-old contributed to Watford’s impressive home form of 18 victories, breaking a 44-year record to set a new one.

The winning form was also built on an impressive clean sheet record that has seen a Troost-Ekong-marshaled defence claim its 22nd clean sheet in 44 matches.

Troost-Ekong joined Watford for €3 million and has scored a goal in 33 appearances in all competitions this season.
