Reactions have trailed Peter Obi’s visit to Egypt to “understudy the country’s power, education, planning and finance sectors”.
The former governor of Anambra and presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) had tweeted on Tuesday that he will be in Egypt for three days.
“I just departed for Egypt on a 3-day visit as part of my detailed study of comparable countries to Nigeria,” he tweeted.
“In Egypt, I am expected to understudy, among others, the Egyptian Power Sector, Education, Planning and Finance Sectors.”

While some of his supporters praised the move, it didn’t go down well with others who felt the presidential candidate should be in Ekiti, campaigning for the party’s candidate as the the state prepares for the June 18 governorship election.
“Heard@PeterObi traveled to Egypt to learn how to fix Education/Power problems, this is exactly the problem with unprepared candidates. It is 9 months to election & a two-term gov. & former VP candidate want to go learn something from Egypt in 3 days? Wow! #WeCantContinueLikeThis,” Omoyele Sowore, activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), tweeted.
“Honestly, Peter Obi is the candidate Nigeria needs. He is the candidate absolutely interested in fixing Nigeria. He is intentional about making Nigeria work. You can’t hate him. #PeterObi4President #PeterObi #PeterObi2023,” Kelechuku Iruoma, award-winning freelance journalist, tweeted in support of Obi.
Below are more reactions on Obi’s trip to Egypt.
It won't surprise me if just one week to the 2023 election, Peter Obi boards a plane and travel to Kenya to go and learn beads making. I'm told he's going to Tunisia to learn fish farming during Osun election in July. He kuku went to greet Boris Johnson 3 days to PDP primary 😂🤣

For those asking “why Egypt”. In 2014 when GEJ was still in power, Nigeria was 2nd in the top 10 best African countries to invest in, Egypt was 6th.
Fast forward to 2021, Egypt is now no 1 while Nigeria is no longer in the top 10 because Buhari happened!😩
It’s disheartening😭 https://t.co/OXBg7xzObp pic.twitter.com/2DmHLFe1zV

Peter Obi should be going to Ekiti not Egypt. Election is happening on Saturday in Ekiti, Obi says he’s going to Egypt to understudy their system. Labour Party have a Guber candidate in Ekiti. This was how Moghalu was all over social media but someone called Dumebi defeated him.

Tinubu is in Ekiti working hard for his party, Atiku is in Abuja; Obi on his way to Egypt to study Egypt. Later, people will come to shout rigging.

Read this thread and you will know that many Nigerians do not want to be citizens. They just want to be slaves with PRIVILEGES! They are looking for emperor by all means!
I totally agree with @adeyanjudeji !@PeterObi has more business being in Ekiti than Egypt! https://t.co/nSA0JnSEXO— Aisha Yesufu (@AishaYesufu) June 14, 2022
Why does this sound like the right thing to do and also sound like a joke too? https://t.co/HZygruYWti

"I'm traveling to Egypt to learn how to solve electricity problem"- Peter Obi
Why can't you just obtain JAMB Form to go and study Electrical Engineering at Anambra State University. pic.twitter.com/N2p7ZjU7kw

My sister , Angela visited Nigeria to witness the signing of electricity road map agreement between Nigeria & Germany on August 30,2018 with milestones. The project is going on well & it is $2.3bn. We have paid first counterpart fund. Anyone going to Egypt is wasting his time

Ekiti Election where Obi’s Labour Party suppose to show his seriousness comes up on Saturday but Obi travelled to Egypt to learn how to run Nigeria 🇳🇬. He too is tired of China and Hong Kong.

This man will be a spectacular failure!😂
Egypt's education sector ranked 116th in 2015 according to World Economic Forum, this is where @PeterObi is learning from😂. This is one of d point @YeleSowore is making that seem like an attack to #OBIdients.

This is very soothing. Egypt has recently developed their power sector, agriculture, and urban planning. I’m amazed by the concept behind the New Cairo which can also solve the problem of congestion in popular cities like Lagos. This man is serious!! #PeterObi4President https://t.co/WOGVcaEeWM

“I will take Nigeria from policy formulation to policy implementation”.
“I will sit with them in Egypt and ask them how they were able to get their power sector working”.
This man married his words. https://t.co/BtsrHNs2se

Peter Obi demonstrates capacity & focus, time after time. His trip to Egypt did not surprise people like us. It shouldn’t be confused or misconstrued. He prepared himself for leadership unlike the charlatans. Obi is the ONLY ONE whose heart is in the right place. A class act.👏

This Masterstroke is too much.
Even PDP folks didn't see this coming.
He didn't go to China, He didn't go to Thailand or South Africa.
He went to Egypt that just recovered from a recession similar to ours.
He's going to learn and understudy them.
A true Presidential material https://t.co/gM0ypi5VSp

Going to Egypt to learn how they overcome certain challenges is a political masterstroke by Peter Obi. That's why his secret and open enemies are angry. Leaders are learners. Obi is a learner.

PETER GOES TO EGYPT: What Peter Obi is doing to Nigerian politicians is not fair 🤣. It is like dragging a fish out of water to fight in the air. Suddenly, APC and PDP guys can no longer eat akara or agbado in peace. You either come correct or stay home. #PeterObiForPresident2023 https://t.co/APDa5WWXHS

Just cos of Egypt trip that has a splendid objective, his name has been on everyone’s lips since morning. At this point, you’d think Peter Obi and Labour Party are the incumbent administration.

We're not used to this level of engagement in Nigerian politics & that's what angers the charlatans & their minions
It's no more roadside corn, or sipping ribenna with a kid, it's actual engagement with the people & their problems
Long may it continue!!!!! https://t.co/wUDPkuUeUr

After this visit, when next he is talking he will be quoting statistics based on facts,if not that he is now in the open, this has been the way he has been traveling around in search of knowledge and information but som people wants to undermine him wit facts checking 🤣#PeterObi https://t.co/ehAwJTHjWI
