The presidential campaign of Donald Trump says it received $34.8 million from donors moments after the hush-money case conviction.

Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payment to Stormy Daniels, an adult film star, before the 2016 election.

Trump had pleaded not guilty and denied having sex with Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.

Prosecutors also accused Trump of taking part in an illegal conspiracy to undermine the integrity of the 2016 election and an unlawful plan to suppress “negative information” revolving around the adult film star.

The verdict makes Trump, who seeks to return to the White House, the first former president in US history to be convicted of a felony.

The Republican’s campaign said it raised its record-breaking funds from small-dollar donors in less than seven hours after the verdict.

“Our digital fundraising system was overwhelmed with support, and despite temporary delays online because of the amount of traffic, President Trump raised $34.8 million from small-dollar donors,” Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, senior campaign advisers, said in a statement on Friday.

“Not only was the amount historic, but 29.7% of yesterday’s donors were brand new donors to the WinRed platform.”

According to the campaign, the verdict moved many Americans to donate to Trump’s cause.

Trump has used each of his four criminal indictments to raise money, but his first conviction gave his fundraising a bigger boost.

The US former president called the hush money trial against him a “disgrace” and a “rigged trial” and promised to win the country back.
