Trump tests negative for coronavirus

President Donald Trump has tested negative for coronavirus.

Sean Conley, his physician, announced his health status via a memo on  Saturday evening.

There were concerns that the American president may have contracted the virus after two people he came in contact with last week tested positive for the disease.

While Conley had said there was no cause for alarm as the contact between the president and patients was brief, Trump announced that he had taken the test on Friday, adding that he had no symptoms and his temperature was normal.

“This evening I received confirmation that the test is negative,” Conley announced.

“One week after having dinner with the Brazilian delegation in Mar-a-Lago, the president remains symptom-free.

“I have been in daily contact with the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] and White House Coronavirus Task Force, and we are encouraging the implementation of all their best practices for exposure reduction and transmission mitigation.”

The US has more than 2,700 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 54 deaths.

On Friday, Trump declared a national state of emergency to release $50 billion to fight the spread of the virus. He also declared Sunday a national day of prayer against the disease.

As part of precautionary measures, the US has suspended flights from Europe into the country.
