The United States President Donald Trump, says his administration is in discussions with four different groups regarding the sale of TikTok, the Chinese-owned social media platform.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump expressed optimism about reaching a deal soon.

“We’re dealing with four different groups, and a lot of people want it… all four are good,” he said.

The push to sell TikTok’s US operations comes amid increasing scrutiny from lawmakers, over concerns bordering on data privacy and national security.

In response, the social media platform denied allegations of data-sharing with China, saying “users’ privacy is top priority”.

On January 19, TikTok briefly shut down in the US before Trump intervened, delaying a potential ban by 75 days.

He also appointed Vice-President JD Vance to oversee the sale process.

Several high-profile figures have reportedly expressed interest in purchasing the Chinese-owned platform, including Frank McCourt, the billionaire entrepreneur.

Others include Jesse Tinsley, a tech entrepreneur; Reid Rasner, a Wyoming investor, and James Stephen Donaldson, a YouTube personality also known as ‘MrBeast’.

Trump had previously said he is open to the possibility of Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla and microblogging platform X, purchasing TikTok.

However, Musk, who currently leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in Trump’s administration, has made it clear that he has no interest in acquiring the platform.
