Trump to Assad: You’ll pay heavy price if you use chemical weapons on civilians again

US President Donald Trump has warned Syrian President Bashar Assad over another plan to use chemical weapons on civilians.

According to NAN, Trump issued the warning in a statement released by Sean Spicer, White House spokesman, on Monday.

He said intelligence showed that the Syrian government is preparing for another chemical weapons attack.

The US president said Assad will pay a “heavy price” if he goes ahead to “conduct another mass murder”.

“The United States has identified potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime that would likely result in the mass murder of civilians, including innocent children,” the statement read.

“As we have previously stated, the United States is in Syria to eliminate the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. If, however, Mr Assad conducts another mass murder attack using chemical weapons, he and his military will pay a heavy price.”

Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the United Nations, has also said that Russia and Iran would be blamed for any chemical attack on Syrians.

Haley explained that the aforementioned countries would be blamed because “they support the atrocities committed by the Assad government”.

It is unclear how the US plans to make Assad and his government pay for any attack but reports say the state department, Pentagon and other intelligence agencies would all be consulted before the White House could issue a warning.
