Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, minister of interior, has directed an investigation into allegations of criminal activities within the Okere Correctional Centre, Warri in Delta state.
A recent report alleged that prison officials accept bribes and allow inmates to leave the facility for criminal activities.
The report said a four-man prison gang recently travelled to Benin City, Edo, for a robbery before making a return to their cells.
According to a statement on Tuesday by Babatunde Alao, the minister’s spokesperson, Tunji-Ojo condemned the alleged act and said any form of indiscipline and misconduct will be met with severe consequences.

“I will not allow indiscipline to fester under my nose. Any officer found wanting will face the full weight of the law. The leadership of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) must provide explanations,” he said.
“We take these allegations seriously and will not tolerate any form of misconduct within our correctional facilities.”
The minister reiterated his commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the administration of justice within the correctional service system.

He implored the public to provide relevant information that may aid the investigation.
