TVC set for Independence-Day launch of new station

Continental Broadcasting Service (CBS) has announced its intention to launch a new Nigeria-based news television channel that will provide round-the-clock local news, reports and analysis for Nigerians within and outside the country.

According to Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, head of TVC News Nigeria, the new station will provide reliable and accurate Nigerian programmes ranging from news and current affairs to documentaries.

Revealing the vision of the station to be the leading television news channel, Kolade-Otitoju said the channel would focus on people-oriented and developmental journalism that would help the public discover and understand their challenges and discover homegrown solutions.

Lemi Olalemi, the chief operating officer of the station, said the new channel would serve the exclusive interest of Nigerians who desire breaking news and updates on the go but often rely on foreign news agencies for breaking news stories in Nigeria.

He disclosed that the organisation had procured the required equipment that would make it deliver on the targets, adding that the new station also has competent hands.

“For many years, we understood that we could make a positive contribution to the news and information available in and about Nigeria and what we are announcing today will help us achieve that goal,” he said.

“TVC News Nigeria will significantly expand our existing viewership and distribution footprint in Nigeria, as well as increase our newsgathering and reporting efforts in the country. We have acquired the state-of-the-art equipment and engaged the best hands in the industry across the country to deliver a truly Nigerian news content. I am both exceptionally pleased and very proud that we could take this very important step.

“Our viewers have clearly demonstrated that they like the way TVC provides the alternative news angles to stories, compelling, in-depth news to audiences across Africa and indeed the world.

“Our commitment to the voice of the voiceless, bringing stories from under-reported regions of the country and putting the people at the centre of our news agenda, is at the heart of what we do. Everyone at TVC takes great pride in the independence, impartiality, professionalism and courage of our journalism.”

Continental Broadcasting Service media network consists of TVC Entertainment, TVC News Africa, Radio Continental, Adaba FM and the new channel, which will be broadcasting on Consat Channel 190 from October 1, 2014.
