Two aid workers rescued as troops raid Boko Haram hideouts in Borno

Troops of 51 task force battalion Banki, Operation Hadin Kai, have reportedly killed many Boko Haram fighters in Borno.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the operation was carried out on Friday by the troops in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

The publication said the troops invaded the hideouts of the terrorists in Gargash, Bama LGA of the state.

Military sources were quoted as saying the terrorists were planning to carry out attacks before they were killed by the troops.

Two humanitarian workers who were abducted from Monguno in 2022 were said to have been rescued during the gun duel.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 135 Boko Haram insurgents — including their family members—  have surrendered to troops of 21 armoured brigade.

Zagazola Makama said the development was part of a weeklong offensive by the troops in Sambisa forest in collaboration with the 199 Special Forces Battalion and the CJTF.

During the operation, 12 hideouts were reportedly sacked by the troops, with 35 insurgents killed.

While addressing the troops, AE Abubakar, the general officer commanding (GOC), urged them to ensure the total defeat of “remnant terrorists and ensure the return of total peace to the region”.
