Two ‘bandit kingpins’ surrender weapons, captives to troops in Katsina

The Nigerian Army (NA) says Abu Radde and Umar Black, two notorious bandit leaders operating in Batsari and Safana LGAs in Katsina state, have surrendered their weapons and captives to troops.

In an X post on Monday, the army disclosed that the ceremony, which held on January 19 in Batsari, was attended by “all stakeholders, including military representatives, to ensure transparency”.

The army stated that the bandits handed over four AK47 rifles and 15 captives, including three males, eight females, and four children.

The army said the development followed “intense military operations by the combined forces of Operation Fasan Yanma”.

“This move marks a significant step towards ending banditry and criminality in the region,” the post reads.

“It was emphasised that this surrender was not a negotiation or peace meeting, but rather a crucial step towards the bandits’ complete disarmament and release of all kidnapped victims.

“The surrendered arms, which are in good condition, are now in the custody of the 17 Brigade, while the rescued captives have been handed over to the Local Government Authorities for rehabilitation and aftercare.”
