‘Two bandits arrested’ as police repel attack on Katsina community

The Katsina police command says two suspected bandits have been arrested during an attempt to attack Madachi village in Sabuwa LGA of the state.

In a statement on Sunday, Abubakar Aliyu, police spokesperson in the state, said the operatives repelled the attack on April 19, in collaboration with other security agencies.

Aliyu said the operatives killed one of the bandits and recovered two motorcycles during the gun duel.

“In a joint operation between the Katsina state police command, military, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), members of the vigilante and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) across Dandume and Sabuwa LGAs, succeeded in neutralising (1), arresting two (2) suspected bandits, and recovering two (2) bandits’ operational motorcycles at Madachi village, Sabuwa LGA, Katsina state,” the statement reads.

“On April 19th, 2024, at about 0900 hrs, while on a coordinated intelligence-led operation, upon reaching Madachi village in Sabuwa LGA, the team of operatives came under heavy fire from some suspected armed bandits.

“Gallantly, the team returned fire, successfully repelled the attack, and arrested two (2) suspects.

“In the course of scanning the scene, the body of one (1) neutralised suspected bandit and two (2) operational motorcycles belonging to the bandits were recovered.”

He said the commissioner of police commended the operatives for their professionalism and assured residents of the command’s commitment to securing lives and property.
