Two dead, many injured in Lagos church stampede

Two people have reportedly died and many others injured in a stampede at the Comfort Life Mission International Church located in Ikotun area of Lagos state.

The stampede occurred on Thursday during a crusade in the church.

The crusade was said to have attracted many people to the church auditorium.

The stampede was said to have happened after the worshippers who came for a second service wanted to gain access into the church.

The Lagos state police command said two people died in the incident while many were injured.

Odekunle Epapharas, founder of the church, was arrested and detained by the police, but was later granted bail.

Confirming the incident, Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police spokesperson, said a woman and a five-year-old girl died in the stampede.

“As a result of the stampede, five persons slumped and were rushed to Isolo General Hospital, for treatment,” the Lagos police spokesperson said.

“A woman of about 45-years-old and a five-year-old girl, whose identities and address are unknown, died.

“The scene has been visited, corpses deposited at Mainland General Hospital Mortuary, Yaba, for preservation. Investigation in progress.”
