Two persons have been reportedly killed in Osun, following an attack by gunmen on two banks in the state on Thursday.

The attacks, which occurred in Iree, Boripe LGA of Osun, were targeted at two new generation banks.

The robbers were said to have arrived at the two banks, which are in the same area, around 3:50pm and operated for about 30 minutes.

A witness, who spoke to NAN on the condition of anonymity, said two persons were killed during the attacks, while an unspecified amount of money was carted away.

The witness also said a police officer attached to one of the banks was killed.

According to NAN, the robbers shot sporadically into the air and engaged security operatives in a gun duel before they fled the scene and escaped through Iree-Ada road.

Confirming the incident, Yemisi Opalola, spokesperson of the Osun police command, said the number of casualties has not yet been ascertained.

Opalola said police officers were deployed to the area, and are on the trail of the fleeing suspected robbers.

She added that the suspected armed robbers abandoned their operation vehicles at the scene, adding that full details would be provided on the incident later.
