The incident, according to Kabir Mohammed, a traditional ruler in Erena town, occurred around 3pm on Saturday.

Mohammed said two residents of the community were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment.

“An attack occurred three days ago, that was on Saturday in Chukuba village. The terrorists planted a bomb in the village and two persons were affected. “The other person also got injured and one of his legs got burnt, but he is being treated traditionally here at home with herbs.

“Our neighbouring villages are still battling with terrorists. Though Erena is currently safe because of security presence, the neighbouring villages are seriously suffering. The bomb in Chukuba was heard at about 3pm in the afternoon.

“Currently, in Kaure and Kurebe, Boko Haram members have taken over the villages. As I speak with you, there are no residents living there anymore. Anybody found there now is either a member or part of the Boko Haram team.

“Currently, the issue the villagers are battling is that the terrorists are refusing to release abducted persons. They have said they will only exchange them with the new naira notes, so many people that have been kidnapped are still in captivity.”

The Niger police command is yet to provide details on the development.
