At least two persons were injured in an explosion that occurred on Monday morning at Mile 3 market, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
It is not immediately clear what caused the explosion.
Nnamdi Omoni, police spokesperson in Rivers state, confirmed the incident to TheCable.
He said no life was lost in the explosion, but that two persons sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.

Omoni said Rivers police commissioner has launched an investigation into the incident.
“We are investigating, we don’t know the cause of it because the commissioner of police (CP) has ordered a full-scale investigation into it with a view to ascertaining the circumstances that led to it,” Omoni said.
“Meanwhile no life was lost. We have been able to seal the entire place. Our bomb department has gone there to seal the place and normal trading activities have resumed. No cause for alarm.

“The two persons that sustained injuries are currently receiving medical attention.”
The incident is the latest in a battery of similar explosions that have occurred in the state.
In November 2020, an explosion rocked the Christian Universal Church in Port Harcourt belonging to the father of Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers.
In June 2019, 10 people were reported dead following a pipeline explosion in a community in the state.

About a week earlier, five persons were injured after an explosion hit a shopping mall in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
