Two killed as transport workers, park management clash in Oyo

Oyo Oyo

A clash between members of the proscribed National Union of Road Transport Workers and the Park Management System (PMS) in Oyo state, on Wednesday, claimed the lives of two people.

After the ban of NURTW activities by the state government in May 2019, the PMS was created to oversee the affairs of the transport system in the state.

A resident, who witnessed the incident which occurred on Iwo road, said the crisis erupted as a result of reprisal after an earlier clash between the two groups on Monday.

The source said both groups engaged in a gun battle, leading to the looting of shops, while passers-by were attacked and robbed.

One of the casualties, simply identified as Ahmed, was said to be the owner of a shopping complex located on Iwo road.

While an eyewitness said the victim was hit by a bullet while scampering for safety, another resident said Ahmed was macheted to death.

Protesters later carried the body of the victim to the entrance of the state secretariat in Agodi, demanding justice.
