Two killed, many injured as gunmen attack Imo community

Two persons have been reportedly killed following an attack on Etekwuru community, Ohaji-Egbema LGA of Imo state.

A number of people were also injured while several properties were destroyed in the attack that happened in the early hours of Wednesday.

Kenneth Okereke, the traditional ruler of the community, confirmed the attack to TheCable on Wednesday morning, and called for security operatives to be deployed in the area.

Michael Abattem, police spokesperson in Imo state, did not respond to calls and text messages to comment on the attack.

The incident is the latest in a series of attacks in the south-east state.

The attack comes weeks after gunmen reportedly attacked the palace of the traditional ruler and set ablaze his vehicle.

In October, three traditional rulers were killed after gunmen invaded Nnenasa community, Njaba LGA of the state. The monarchs were said to be holding a meeting in the area when the gunmen attacked them.
