‘Two killed, seven abducted’ as gunmen attack Ebonyi community

Gunmen have reportedly killed two persons and abducted seven others during an attack on Ikachi village in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi state.

Some of the communities in the LGA have been enmeshed in deadly clashes since 2021.

Joshua Ukandu, spokesperson of the Ebonyi police command, said the latest incident occurred on Sunday.

He said the gunmen also destroyed property worth millions of naira.

“The assailants killed two persons and destroyed property worth millions of naira in the area on Sunday,” NAN quoted Ukandu as saying.

“We are aware of the attack and the command is on top of the situation.

“We have been working with other security agencies to ensure that peace returns to the area.

“The command is also investigating the attack to ascertain the root cause of the matter.”

The police spokesperson added that officers are committed to safeguarding lives and property in Ebonyi.

On April 11, gunmen killed a police officer during an attack on a checkpoint in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital.
