Two persons have been killed in a gas explosion that occurred in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos on Tuesday.
The explosion was said to have been caused by the mishandling of cooking gas cylinders assembled at the entrance of shops.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson of the Lagos police command, said three people were also injured in the explosion.
“It is just a week and we have recorded another gas explosion at a gas retail shop, this time in Ibeju-Lekki,” Hundeyin wrote on X.

“Sadly, two persons died, three persons sustained injuries and four shops got razed. Let us prevent avoidable deaths. Let us be safety-conscious at all times!”
Officers from the Lekki Phase II fire station, complemented by health, environment, and military officials, were said to have responded to the incident.
On May 1, twenty-two persons sustained various degrees of burns following a gas explosion in the Ajeromi-Ifelodun area of Lagos.

On April 28, one person was killed and two others were injured in a gas tanker explosion at Ita-Oshin, on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
Confirming the incident to journalists, Florence Okpe, spokesperson of the Ogun command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the accident occurred at 4.10pm.
She said six people — all male adults — were involved in the incident.
She added that the motor boy died in the accident.
